French stewardess stole from airline passengers
Created 7/21/2010
A stewardess for Air France has been arrested after authorities found she had stolen thousands of dollars from sleeping airline passengers' carry-on bags.
The flight attendant originally came to French police's attention in January, when five passengers on a flight from Tokyo to Paris reported nearly $6,000 dollars missing from their bags, according to the AFP. By cross referencing the passenger lists of that flight and several others where theft was reported, authorities found that the culprit was actually employed by the airline, rather than a fellow passenger.
"The dishonest employee was gradually identified by examining passenger listings on flights where thefts were committed," an unnamed police source told French paper Le Figaro.
The stewardess frequently flew from France to Japan and targeted business travelers who were sleeping. The thief would open carry-on luggage and take cash and other valuables. Authorities have linked her to over 150 thefts since March 2009.
Theft is just one of many protections that travel insurance protects against. Corporate travel planners who plan frequent business trips should look for a travel plan which will cover their company in nearly any scenario.
