Airplane accident kills two
Created 7/26/2010
A flight accident in the skies over Manawatu, New Zealand, yesterday left two people dead and residents of the small town shaken by what they had witnessed.
The New Zealand Herald reports that two Cessna training planes collided in midair. A flight instructor and her student were killed upon impact. The other pilot was able to make a safe landing back at the airfield.
The planes were both owned by the same flight training company.
Local resident Anna McDonald told the news source that she thought the collision was a bomb. "It was like on those war movies; it was like it was nose-diving, then a 'boom'. My heart just sank. I thought it was a plane, but... I couldn't see any smoke or flames."
Flight accidents are an uncommon but dangerous risk of air travel. To ensure that travelers are protected, they should be sure to purchase travel insurance that covers them in case of an accident in the air.
